On the factory floor, we see this mistake more often than anyone would like to admit: someone opens a panel, sees that “everything is off,” and reaches in without measuring the voltage.
It seems basic… but when pressure is on, basics vanish.
The typical scene is very clear: Panel open, no indicators lit, everything seemingly de-energized. The operator trusts the system, works, and there lies the hidden risk:
a poorly insulated circuit,
a live return,
a breaker that didn’t trip completely,
or a load that remains powered through another path.
Any one of these details is enough to put someone in a dangerous situation.
The recommendation is as simple as it is crucial: always measure, even if you swear the panel is de-energized. Check phases, neutral, returns, and any point where residual voltage might remain.
A minute with a multimeter can save you from a shock, a short circuit, or a scare no one wants to experience.
Safety is not a formality. It’s what ensures that you’ll return home safe and sound today too.
